Household recycling and waste disposal from Trash Robot

This post is in three parts and at the end includes an official free PDF about current legislations you need to consider when recycling and waste disposal of household goods. Some of these areas will have to be explored when conceptualising the Trash Robot, however at this stage of the game this is possibly the most informative post so far here at Trash Robot. Recycling and waste disposal is one of the main concerns, and will be part and parcel of our future Trash Robot. So I have researched this report on taking household goods, bottles and other goods and finally more heavy goods like scraps of metal and old appliances. I have explored two types of council rules, and then explored another possability that you may not have seriously considered. At the end of this post I will summarise in relation to the future of Trash Robot. But you need to read this if you are unsure of what to do when recycling waste or even if you are curious about current changes in the system.
Many council’s offer recycling and waste centres that accept materials for reuse, recycling and safe disposal. As already mentioned these need to be separated and put into containers at these various centres ran by councils. When you go to these centre’s you need to remember that your vehicle should not be higher than 6ft 6″, pick up trucks are permitted if they have household waste if it has industrial waste then you will have to get a skip. When you go to your tip you cannot leave your vehicle outside and then carry the rubbish to the tip. An additional note on this is a health and safety reason when going to your waste centre is that very young children must remain in the car. The good thing about going here is you can be assisted by an on site assistant.
The limit outside of being classed as industrial or business waste is on weight. Trashing anything over 3500 kilograms will be refused so remember this because you will be refused entry. If you were clever you could separate items into categories over a period of time. This will improve the time needed with waste and recycling. All these rules are concurrent according to Kent council as of July 2009 and are the same across the board in U.K.
In Islington they invite pedestrians with plastic containers, cans and glass bottles to there recycling centre, in your area there should be something similar. They on the other hand don’t accept trailers so if you going to a specific tip it’s always best to check whether you can arrive or deliver from a trailer motor vehicle. Interestingly as a disclaimer they say that they do not allow anyone to just come in and take trash due to health and safety reason’s.
The other solution to this type of household goods disposal is a Rag and bone man. Rag and bone men have been about for years and have always been very popular in Britain. A famous T.V. show about people who worked in this trade were ‘Steptoe and Son’. Rag and bone companies accept bathroom, building, plumbing, old electrical goods, furniture, garden and motoring items. If you have a Rag and bone company in your area, it could save you the job of going out your house. The rag and bone man is known to walk along busy streets in the country or the city shouting any old iron. This motto is still used today however copper has superseded the price of Iron, yet iron is much heavier the copper.
